THE DESIGN OF
MHPSS AND LIVELIHOOD INTEGRATION (MLI) MANUAL
Introduction
The MLI manual introduces guidance on developing MHPSS activities adapted for livelihood programme participants.
The project consisted of an eight module manual and 18 leaflets that served as a guiding material for the activities of each module.
The client requested original illustrations for the activities and the leaflets, each module to have a unique colour palette and make different versions for three languages.
Colors
The Manual consisted of eight modules, each dedicated to a topic. We assigned each module to a colour so that each module has a different character, we used IOM secondary colours to bring the variety to the document without compromising IOM branding.
These colours were also reflected in the illustrations to bring a coherent them with every module.
Fonts
The fonts used for the document was Gill Sans Nova, which is IOM's official font in their publications. Since this document was relatively complicated, we had to create a new list of paragraph and character styles to serve the needs of this relatively complicated document.
Illustrations
The illustrations were the biggest part of the document. IOM requested original illustrations that serves as an explanation to the activities in each module and enhances the overall visuals.
Over 90 illustrations were developed for this manual, each with its unique concept, drawing and art direction with regard to Iraq's social context.
Leaflets
We designed eighteen that served as guidance to beneficiaries on the different activities of each module.
Besides having physical copies, the leaflets were also easily accessible within the manual by clicking direct two-way in-document links that could take you from each activity to its leaflet and vice versa.
Key Figures
The Manual evolved to be 136 pages, with over 90 original illustrations and 18 leaflets. All in three languages; English, Arabic and Kurdish.
